Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Marseille on Penalties to Claim French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now won the prestigious trophy on 14 separate times.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup title.

The European champions appeared to be sailing towards a straightforward triumph in the match featuring the Ligue 1 champions and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger opened the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side fired two times late to take a surprise advantage. First, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial equaliser in the dying seconds to send the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping decisive attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a 4-1 penalty win.

The record champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the last 13 years.
