Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one titles have been won on hard courts

A resurgent the Russian player won his first championship for nearly 30 months with success over opponent Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has endured a difficult season, managing just one match at the major tournaments and experiencing a meltdown at the US Open.

The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serve in specific - resulted in him exiting of the elite rankings and finally separating with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.

Presently training with his coach and his other coach, he has consistently advanced in the past month - culminating in a hard-fought three-set triumph over challenger Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's first title following the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface from March of the previous year.

The win also means he has won 21 victories at 21 distinct tournaments.

"It's the first time I have attended a tournament with my both daughters at once, so to win a title is especially meaningful," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my child Victoria, because the first title I got when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had failed in his past six championship matches, featuring in the German tournament in the past months.

Medvedev's retrieving play style and frequent outbursts on the playing surface had led commentators to wonder if his capacity to play at the top level was over.

But the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to come to the net and compete aggressively, backed up by an enhanced service.

He came back from a deficit in the first set against the difficult opponent, securing 4 of the final five points to take the lead.

The pair swapped break points in the following set before the challenger, striving for his initial tour title, seized the initiative to push for a third set.

Moutet rescued four initial break points in a close final set before the champion secured a break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Fittingly, the winner clinched the title with a point at the net area, with Moutet incapable to manage a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
